Nokia's First Touchscreen Phone Hits The UK

Nokia's first touchscreen phone, the 5800 XpressMusic, has hit the UK on the back of 1 million unit sales elsewhere in the world.More than 100 eager fans queued outside Nokia's flagship store in Regent St, London for what Nokia billed as its "first mass market touchscreen device".
The phone was launched in October 2008, including Moscow and Hong Kong where, according to marketing spiel, it sold out 'within hours'. The 5800 sports a 3.2in widescreen display for displaying photos and Web content and can playback and record video at 30 frames-per-second (fps).

It comes with a healthy 8GB of onboard memory which can hold around 6,000 tracks, supports most major audio formats, has an FM radio and a 3.5mm jack. A Media Bar allows simple tocuh access to the main features, one-touch access to the Net and a contacts bar where you can highlight your 4 main contacts and get quick access to all of their emails, texts and calls.

It features a 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens and, for all you Web socialites, the ability to upload videos and photos to key social networking sites and YouTube with a single click.

Available free through many networks with a contract it will cost around £230-250 SIM-free.

Nokia Sneaks In New Addition To XpressMusic Range

If you're after a phone that'll make text entry easier and can't wait for (or can't afford) the Nokia N97, there's a 'lite' version on the way, of sorts, in the form of the ExpressMusic 5730.

Strangely Nokia doesn't seem to have announced this one, but details of it are floating about and you'll find it to be one of those 'sandwich' phones where a QWERTY keyboard slides out from under the main display.

To be honest we'd thought we'd heard from the last of these things, and we're not overly impressed by the styling from what we've seen but it does make for a nice budget alternative.

Inside you'll find a Symbian S60 OS, 3.2MP camera, GPS and EDGE for data but sadly no 3G. There is 128MB of memory with microSD expansion and word on the street is that it might even include built-in WiFi.
Of course being an XpressMusic phone you'll also find a 3.5mm jack for connecting your own earphones and dedicated media keys, and if the rest of the range is anything to go by you can expect music quality to be pretty awesome.

It's scheduled for released in Europe in April, and will set you back around £200 before your typical operator subsidies.

The iFlyz Media Stand

If you’re a big traveler and are constantly stuck in situations where you kill time by watching things on your iPhone, then you might need a little assistance. When you’re in flight, with iFlyz you could sit back and relax while watching your iPhone. There would be no need to hold your iPhone up or attempt to prop it on some random object. It would be far more entertaining while you’re in flight than staring at the person snoring next to you. Just add a pair of noise-canceling headphones to the mix and you’re set.

It’s also able to be adjusted to the perfect angle and has a clamp specially designed to attach to the pull-down table in-flight. It attaches to your iPhone by using a suction cup. It doesn’t mention if it will work with other devices, but since it’s just a suction cup, it should. At the very least, it should work with an iPod Touch or iPod with Video. You’ll have to wait about a month before you can get your hands on one though. These won’t be out until February of this year, but they are available to be pre-ordered. If you’re within the US it will cost you $29.99 with shipping and those of you outside the States it doesn’t cost much more.
